I’m an East Texas–based romantasy writer, published poet, wife, and mom of two boys. I hold a master’s degree in special education and am a certified educational diagnostician.
I’ve always had a vivid imagination and a need to get the words out. A scent, a sound, a touch—even a movement—can set a scene in motion. In the few seconds it takes to notice, I may see a story’s whole life unfold as vividly as a real experience. When my husband once asked where my ideas came from, I shrugged and said, “I don’t know—my brain.” The truth is, sometimes I don’t know either. It can feel as if my mind has a mind of its own, and I’m simply the vessel the words pass through.
The connection between grief and joy in my writing comes from my own life. After losing my second child and later welcoming my third, I grieved the baby I never got to hold while finding joy in the newborn cries of my third child. I learned that both feelings can live in the same heart, and I carry that truth into my stories.
